As I was watching some cheesy made-for-tv movie, the main guy in the movie went off about why he is a contractor working for his father restoring old homes when he graduated from Harvard with a MBA in architecture. He pointed out the attention to detail that our society has lost and how no one today is interested in paying for that. I just about melted!! I feel the exact same way! Which is one of the reasons I have avoided applying for a graduate program in architecture even though I look into several different programs every week. It's heart-breaking. Hopefully I can do what I want to with my design degree and then I won't have to go to graduate school after all! :)
So the weather in Salt Lake is crazy today. Yesterday it was around 70 degrees and super windy. As I was driving on I-15 there was so much dirt in the air it sounded like rain hitting the windshield, but it was dirt. There were no raindrops. Then this morning it snowed for three hours.
The song that I thought was most apt for this crazy weather is by Tears for Fears, called Mad World. It is an amazing song, and I know there are a few different remakes of this song, but I personally think the original is the best.

Danse Macabre
So really today's song would be better if I waited until October to post but it's one of my all time favorite songs (We'll just say it's in honor of my half-birthday and half-Halloween--PS they're the same day haha). I've been trying to learn Franz Lizst's transcription of this song for the piano (its 21 pages long...) and, well, I suck at it haha. Camille Saint-Saëns is the original composer and it is a masterpiece. I've included both versions of it. I kinda like the piano arrangement better but that's probably because that's what I listen to all the time.

Playground
Hello my long lost blog!!! I survived my Portfolio event with only a few scathing comments (ok actually only one) and then continued to sit around doing nothing for the next six days hence the long break from blogging. I never realized I could be so worn out that I didn't even want to get online. I kinda think having Facebook access on my phone has added to my long absence from the Internet.
For all you non-Utah residents out there, the weather was absolutely amazing today. It kept going back and forth between sunny and stormy and thunder storms here ROCK. Seriously, they are just amazing. My sister and I love them and go out of our way to sit on the porch when they happen. Unfortunately, I was alone so it was just me the Gibson out there today. That is, until the rain started blowing onto the porch and I decided it would be a smart to take the guitar inside rather than tell my mom I let her $5000 guitar get soaked. I think it was a good move. I should remind her of my thoughtfulness the next time I tell her I want to inherit it (that's one problem with having so many siblings. We're all fighting over the same things.)
Well the song I picked for today fit the fickle, childish atmosphere of the weather. It's called Playground by Sia. I love it... except I find the chorus boring. But the verses and the riff I find edgy and I like the idea behind the song. It's ok for us all to be dreamers and not grow up in the sense that we keep our imagination.
Enjoy!

The Garden
Six days until the Portfolio event! Ah! This would be so much easier if my teachers weren't still giving me pointless busy work homework... Speaking of which, I've got to go bs a research paper for tomorrow morning... So I'll be quick and to the point.
Today's song is The Garden by Mirah from her album, Advisory Committee. I first heard this song on So You Think You Can Dance. I loved the dance and the song. So I thought I should include the dance in with the full version of the song :)
Here is the full song:

Reptilia
The absolute best song to play on Guitar Hero is Reptilia by The Strokes. It's a sneaky one that my sister and I hadn't discovered until we got a second guitar and started a band and then it showed up on our playlist. I love it. I can't drive while I listen to it; it makes me speed too much haha. Its just one of those songs that's perfect to accelerate and shift gears too...
Anyway it makes me think of myself because I get caught up in things and then people interrupt and slow me down and its frustrating. Maybe that's why I like to speed so much to this song haha. Well play it loud and enjoy!

Torch Song
So if you are an interior design major, I have one major piece of advice: Get your portfolio done way early!!! I swear I have given myself a pseudo ulcer over all this stress. I was even way on top of it until getting things photographed and now I have one week left to pull it all together--Yikes! Anyway that is why my songs of the day have not been happening much at all lately... But I have been thinking about it! I've chosen a song for every single day I missed, but never found the time or energy to post them.
Today's song is Torch Song by A.F.I. from their latest album, Crash Love. And can I just say that Davey Havok is sooo hot now that his hair isn't so vampire-ish.

Glycerine
The place where my sister has her photography studio is having their biannual open house tomorrow. While I was helping her hang artwork, the studio next to hers was playing all this old school music that I listened to in sixth grade. It was awesome. So today's song, Glycerine by Bush, is taken from the studio next door. It reminds me of the books I read while listening to this CD way back when. They're the Forbidden Game by LJ Smith, and they're super good. Actually I think they're my favorite series by her. So you should check out this song and while you're at it, check out these books :)
