Reptilia

The absolute best song to play on Guitar Hero is Reptilia by The Strokes. It's a sneaky one that my sister and I hadn't discovered until we got a second guitar and started a band and then it showed up on our playlist. I love it. I can't drive while I listen to it; it makes me speed too much haha. Its just one of those songs that's perfect to accelerate and shift gears too...

Anyway it makes me think of myself because I get caught up in things and then people interrupt and slow me down and its frustrating. Maybe that's why I like to speed so much to this song haha. Well play it loud and enjoy!

Torch Song

So if you are an interior design major, I have one major piece of advice: Get your portfolio done way early!!! I swear I have given myself a pseudo ulcer over all this stress. I was even way on top of it until getting things photographed and now I have one week left to pull it all together--Yikes! Anyway that is why my songs of the day have not been happening much at all lately... But I have been thinking about it! I've chosen a song for every single day I missed, but never found the time or energy to post them.

Today's song is Torch Song by A.F.I. from their latest album, Crash Love. And can I just say that Davey Havok is sooo hot now that his hair isn't so vampire-ish.

Glycerine

The place where my sister has her photography studio is having their biannual open house tomorrow. While I was helping her hang artwork, the studio next to hers was playing all this old school music that I listened to in sixth grade. It was awesome. So today's song, Glycerine by Bush, is taken from the studio next door. It reminds me of the books I read while listening to this CD way back when. They're the Forbidden Game by LJ Smith, and they're super good. Actually I think they're my favorite series by her. So you should check out this song and while you're at it, check out these books :)

If There Is Something

When I first heard this song, it was love. Then I heard the whole version of the song and was like "umm... is this it? I don't remember this part" sooo yes, the beginning sounds country-ish and really doesn't have much to do with the song and it didn't start to grow on me until I had heard it at least one hundred times but after the first minute and a half I've always loved it (it doesn't hurt that I also love Bryan Ferry's vocals). So my point of that is if you don't like the beginning just skip to like a minute and half into and listen to the rest :)

Lovers (Theme from House of Flying Daggers)

Last night I read a pretty good book. It reminded me a lot of Twilight (I know, I know, I'm as sick of Twilight and Edward Cullen as the next person--excepting the girls that are completely psychotically still obsessed) Anyway I think I liked this book better than Twilight, but that might just be because I really am truly sick of Twilight and have been since Eclipse's book release. I'll be honest, I loved Twilight until everyone else started getting obsessed with it. Then the movie killed whatever good qualities it had left. They could have at least hired people who had basic acting skills. Wow totally went off subject. The book I read last night and today was called Dark Divine by Bree Despain. I really enjoyed it. It was a short, intense read and was hard to put down to go to sleep so instead of catching up on my sleep this weekend I lost even more lol.

As I read, I listened to this song by Shigeru Umebayashi featuring Kathleen Battle for the title song from House of Flying Daggers called Lovers. I kept repeating it because it just fit with the part of the book I was reading. It's gorgeous, and now I want to watch the movie again. Its one of my movies that collects dust because its hard for me to watch movies with subtitles since I'm always working on things while watching movies (which means not really watching at all... just listening). This is a problem because I also love foreign films, and have a few, but I just never watch them. On the plus side, I graduate in 26 days and the school's portfolio event is in 19 days and the IIDA event the week after graduations and then I'll have time. Hopefully...

Heartbreaker

My friend is doing her student teaching at a highschool and had an extra ticket to their musical, The Wedding Singer, for tonight. I went with her and sat through 3 1/2 hours in an uncomfortable seat listening to really poorly written songs. The songs taken from the movie were fun, but the rest were awful! The acting and singing were great, I was pretty impressed at the talent at the school, I just wish the musical had been written better. It also probably wasn't a great play for a highschool to put on, seeing as how most of the cast is drunk for half of it (Most likely my very conservative religious background speaking). Aren't they trying to stop underage drinking instead of trying to promote it? Let me tell ya though, it's amusing to watch a bunch of young LDS highschool students acting like they're drunk because they have no idea of what drunk people are really like. Which is good, but it made those scenes painful to watch lol.

For the drive home, I made my friend listen to even more 80s music (which she abhors the 80s. To which I asked, "How can you hate something you came out of?" and she replied, "By only three years! At least I tried to miss them!" I, on the other hand, embrace my 80s heritage and sing my heart out with Bonnie Tyler, Pat Benatar and Sheena Easton on a regular basis). Needless to say, today's song is one of those great 80s legacies which everyone could sing their hearts out to every now and then. It's Pat Benatar's very own "Heartbreaker" and it is amazing. I truly suggest you belt it out next time you're in your car. It is very therapeutic regardless of having a broken heart or not.

Reflection

Have you ever had a day where you stopped and realized, "Wow, this day has been a total waste of my life. Not one thing has made this day worth living." That was today. Not that it was depressing or anything, it was just a waste of time. I sat through six hours of class, and three hours of waiting for class, and accomplished nothing, learned nothing new, and was so bored I couldn't even day dream anything new. So I skipped the last class of the night and went for a walk instead. I've never skipped class for something other than a doctor's appointment or being deathly ill before and to be honest, it was amazing. The weather was perfect (sunny breezy and the warmest day of the year so far) and it really just helped me de-stress from all the things happening in the next month. My mood was neither happy nor sad, more like now that I was releasing all this pent-up stress I was plain out exhausted.

The song for today kinda fits along those lines. It's a new age song more on the sad side, but very relaxing and serene. It's called "Reflection" by Secret Garden. The cello in it is just gorgeous.

All The Same To Me

Today on my walk, I had my ipod on random once again. This song came on and immediately caught my attention. I think its fun and spunky and jazzy. As I stress about finishing my Portfolio, this song made me kinda laugh because really, my Portfolio is not the end of the world. And somehow, I, like most of my fellow design students, have started to think it is (See its good to take walks. It helps you put things in perspective). Anyway, the song is called All the Same to Me by Anya Marina.

Sinkin' Soon

Today I baked an apple pie. Between watching episodes of Pushing Daisies while I work on projects and reading the book "E-Myth Revisted" for my business class (which talks about the author's helping a pie-maker with her business), all I've wanted to do lately is bake pies. Out of my many attempts of pie-making, I have only had apple and peach turn out. Which I don't even like peaches all that much so I still didn't like it, but my family did. I tried a new crust that I found online, so hopefully we like it (I typically use the one from the Betty Crocker cookbook, but decided to try something a little new). I'm excited for once it gets out of the oven :)

Oh and my friend just informed me that it is Pi day so we're just going to pretend that that's why I made a pie today haha

Today's song is Sinkin' Soon, by Norah Jones. I thought it was appropriate because it talks about the golden crust on the apple pie lol. This is my favorite song by her, so I hope you guys like it too.

Come Round Soon

Today's song is by Sara Bareilles, Come Round Soon. It's soo good! I think its much better than Love Song but that might be because I got sooooo sick of hearing that. I swear every time I would go into a store that song would start playing.

Oh and I have some good news: I had made a copy of my drawing and forgot about it which is good because if I had remembered, I would have opened it last night and it would have become corrupted too so yay! I'm now only 2 hours behind instead of 2 months!

Attention

Today was the best Wednesday I've had since August. (Someone in the design program thought it would be a good idea to put most of its classes all in one day. [most of these classes are 3 hours long...] I know... Genius...) I'm stuck at school from 8 until 8 on a good Wednesday, and it's horrible! But today wasn't so bad. Until 6:30, when I saved my autocad file I've been working in all semester. It wouldn't save. My file had somehow become corrupted. (I googled it after trying everything I could think of to fix it and it's unfixable, but it said that it happens when the server is too slow for the program. So this pretty much just means that I hit save at the wrong time.) 8 weeks worth of work down the drain. Oh and to top it off, I have to redraw it (which will probably take me 40 hours) and resubmit it all in a construction document set. My teacher has seen everything I've done so far, she knows it was not my fault this happened. I don't understand why she's making me redraw it all just to check off that I put it in a set of documents!! RIDICULOUS!!!!!! Needless to say, I feel like crying. The worst part about it all? Up until that point, I was so happy that I had had such a good Wednesday.

Anyway..... enough of the drama. This morning while I was waiting for class to start, I had my ipod on random when I discovered a new song by The Raconteurs (I have this really bad habit of only listening to the songs that I get the CD for. You would think after all the songs that I discover years after I get the album that I would at least listen to the whole CD all the way through when I get it. I obviously still haven't learned that lesson.) This song is from their album Consolers of the Lonely, and it's called Attention. I'm super glad I found it! lol

This Is How It Goes

The song for today is by Missy Higgins. I first heard it when she came to Salt Lake and opened for Howie Day. I had the opportunity to meet her after the concert (along with Howie and Anna Nalick--it was an awesome night!!) and she's so cute! My sister and I just enjoyed her concert. She has such a fun stage personality. I've had it stuck in my head all day, probably because it's my alarm on my new phone haha. Well I tried to post the song on the website but I can't figure out how (I even made a stupid video for it in imovie!) so...... I'll work on that and get back to you :) In the meantime, here's a verson of her performing live:

Babe I'm Gonna Leave You

Today's song is one of my all time favorites. Like I mentioned earlier, I am obsessed with Jimmy Page, and this song is one of many that make me admire him as the best guitarist ever. Its so full of emotion and rock I just love it.

So here it is: Babe I'm Gonna Leave You by Led Zeppelin

and here's my favorite pic of Jimmy Page since it wasn't in this little video slide show lol

How Song of the Day started/Ok Go music video

So I realized after I made my first posts that I should give some background. I first started a Song of the Day five years ago by sending out a daily email to my friends with the song attached. This continued on for a year until my ipod got hit by a car and died :(. It was revived after a few requests the following year with a purchase of a new ipod (which has also died... now would be a good time to explain my bad luck with cars, ipods, and phones. It is a good day when I have all three working) School of course got crazy, which once again stopped the Song of the Day emails. But I am bringing it back again!

My tastes in music are as eclectic as my tastes in Design. I like a little of everything. I grew up with my father's classic Rock'N Roll blaring (which has also lead me to have an obsession with Jimmy Page), my mother's New Age Piano, my oldest sister's classical, my next oldest sister's alternative, and my other sister's country, soft hits, and heavy metal (yeah... its a weird mix). Because of this, my own tastes in music encompass all of those plus my own punk/emo additions. So really my point of all that is that there's something on here for everyone to enjoy :)

Ok so I'm obviously very new at this (I can't even find a blog layout that works to fit my videos--but if you double click on them they will play full screen). I was going to post a song that I woke up with in my head, but then I saw this music video and thought it was ingenious. This song is called This To Shall Pass by OK Go

Social Media

I first fell in love with this song when it was on the movie Skulls. I also find the video pretty interesting so you guys should all watch it and find what really happens in Vegas!

Welcome!

Welcome to my blog! I have no clue on what I'm doing but that's most of the fun haha
